Between May 29 -31 will take place the annual celebration of "Ploiesti City Days", a special occasion for the local administration to organize a lot of public programs for the citizens such as concerts, theatre, dance and sport competitions, free visits of the museums, clown shows and ponies for the children, etc.
In order to be closer to the citizens the City Days started with "City Hall Open Gates Day", on May 29. The citizens have the opportunity to visit the departments and to interact with local administration representatives and to exchange opinions about community issues.
The children were expected by the mayor and other political personalities with candies, sweets and there were read stories in an official framework in the hall where usually took place the meetings of the Local Council.
The main concept of this year city days is to divide the city in four areas, each of them focused on a great local personality of the city or on the main feature of the city activity. This approach intends to reinvent a new "brand" of the city. Therefore, there are celebrated a well-known poet and the greatest Romanian playwright and the medieval prince that succeeded to unify the Romanian principalities into a single independent state in 1600. Also, it is taken into consideration the dominant characteristic of the economic field, which is the oil processing industry. The second half of the 19th century brought a new era of development: oilfields were discovered in the region and the first oil distillery and refinery in the world was built in Ploiesti. By the end of the 19th century, the city had 18 refineries and today there are still working four of them. Each area will host cultural activities with the themes mentioned above.
The citizens of the city could vote the favorite area by sending a SMS on the mobile phone. Through an agreement with the mobile phone companies the money gathered in this way will be donated to a local hospital. The winning area will give its theme name to the city for a year.
The city days will precede the events organized by the municipality with the occasion of 1 June, the World Children Day.
